The 3-year pandemic has come to a halt. It gives us time to reflect on our life experiences and what we treasure most about mankind.
The theme of the message of His Holiness Pope Francis for the 57th World Day of Social Communications in 2023 is “Speaking with the heart: “The truth in love” (Eph 4:15)”. To quote from His Holiness Pope Francis, “in order to communicate truth with charity, it is necessary to purify one’s heart. Only by listening and speaking with a pure heart can we see beyond appearances and overcome the vague din which, also in the field of information, does not help us discern in the complicated world in which we live.” “Then the miracle of encounter can take place, which makes us look at one another with compassion, welcoming our mutual frailties with respect rather than judging by hearsay and sowing discord and division.”
Our school motto is “Through Charity to Truth” (“Per Caritatem Ad Veritatem”). Our students are always being commended as loving and caring, humble, responsible and reliable. Our students are nurtured to be responsible citizens who care for others and are always ready to stretch a helping hand to the needy in the society. Our Orbis Students’ Ambassadors Scheme and UNICEF Club are initiated by our students and have won numerous awards for their devotion and dedication to organise and hold programmes to raise awareness and funds for helping particularly the deprived children in the world. The proceeds of our Annual Fun Fair, which is our signature event to celebrate our school anniversary in February, are donated to charitable organisations. Many stakeholders and students from other primary schools in our neighbourhood have enjoyed the games set up in the Fun Fair Stalls by our students and contributed to the meaningful cause. What we cultivate is the language of love, i.e. communicate truth with charity.
Great leaders are those with compassion, attitude, knowledge and skills. Our school provides the fertile soil to groom our students. The awards our students received are a good proof of the amazing work of our students and teachers and their great collaboration and team spirit. In the Hong Kong Outstanding Students Award, Janie Chan (Form 5A, 2021-2022) was one of the ten awardees in Hong Kong. In the Hong Kong Outstanding Teens Election, Renna Ho (Form 4A) was one of the thirty students who were awarded the Hong Kong Outstanding Teens Award. In the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) 2023, 81.2% of our Form 6 graduates were granted Bachelor Degree offers through the Joint-University Programme Admissions System (JUPAS).
Congratulations to Christina Cheung (Form 6B) who received Level 5 and above for ALL the 7 subjects she took; and Vincy Tai (Form 6E) and Kathie Cheung (Form 6E) who both received Level 5 and above for ALL the 8 subjects she took. Nicole Ho (Form 6E), our graduate in 2022, received the Grantham Scholar of the Year Award, which is awarded to students with all-round achievements. Among the nominees from all the secondary schools in Hong Kong, there are only twenty four recipients each year. Our girls had received this honour for a number of years.
Besides the academic achievements of individual students, our students demonstrated outstanding results in different types of team competitions. Our Flag Raising Team won the Championship in the National Flag Raising Competition organised by Endeavour Education Centre Limited. After all the excitement and success of our 75th Anniversary celebrations, including our 75th Anniversary Thanksgiving Mass, Open Days, Fun Fair cum Homecoming Days, and Joint-School Variety Show in the last academic year, we are once again recharged and refreshed with God’s blessings. Stepping into the 76th Anniversary, we will continue to equip our students to face the challenges admist the advancement in technology and rapid changes in the world. With the provision of the school facilities and environment, our students will be tech-savvy. We hope everyone can make good use of the learning opportunities provided by our school and the community to live a fruitful and meaningful life.
May God bless us all.
